Welcome to the Rhema Studio Website
The recording studio is part of the Rhema Youth Works project which offers support to young people between the ages of 13 and 19 in the Wyke area of Hull and beyond. The studio was built to allow and enable young people to explore and develop their musical skills and creativity. It is free to use but must be pre-booked. However, whilst we don't charge young people to use the facility, it costs us about £25 for every hour that we're open. With that in mind, PLEASE make sure that you read the Useful Information page of the website as it's full of important stuff and take note of the following rule!
IN VIEW OF THE COSTS INVOLVED, WE BELIEVE THAT IT IS PERFECTLY REASONABLE OF US TO EXPECT THAT YOU WILL ARRIVE FOR YOUR SESSION ON TIME! IF YOU HAVE NOT ARRIVED WITHIN 20 (TWENTY) MINUTES OF THE START OF YOUR SESSION, IT WILL BE CANCELLED. YOU WILL THEN BE GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE TO BOOK. IF YOU FAIL TO ARRIVE FOR THAT ONE ON TIME, YOU WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO USE RHEMA STUDIO!
Whilst we accept that traffic, buses, flat tyres etc can present problems, common courtesy dictates that you should at least attempt to contact us to inform us of any expected late arrival. Remember, there's a waiting list to use the studio, any failure to attend is a complete waste of time and money - your session could have been given to someone who really wanted it!
The studio is available to anyone aged 13 to 19 who wishes to make music. In the 3 years we've been open the studio has seen bands, choirs, solo singers, DJs and Rap artists record there with a catalogue of nearly 300 tracks being recorded.
Equipment and facilities include a live recording room and a separate control room, an acoustic drum kit, an electronic drum kit, electric guitars and a bass, various amps, a synth, professional CD decks, a multi-track PC based recording system with the capability of 12 tracks being recorded simultaneously.
We also have various pieces of "outboard" equipment including pre-amps, compressors, guitar and bass effect processors as well as a wide variety of microphones by companies like AKG, Golden Age Projects, Shure, Rode & Audix.
We also have access, through a network of musical friends, to an almost bewildering array of other professional audio equipment should the need arise
In order to make a booking, you'll need an active email address.
At present the studio is only available for the following sessions and MUST be booked in advance:
Monday 4.30pm - 7.30pm
Wednesday 4.30pm - 7.30pm
Saturday 2.00pm - 6.00pm
However, additional sessions crop up and more are available during the school holidays, including full day, 8-hour sessions.
We are currently funded byChildren In Need who's simple mission statement is:
"To make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK. Our vision is a society where each and every child and young person is supported to realise their potential."
If you wish to give something back, there are plenty of ways to raise funds each year as part of the BBC's telethon.

As a charity, we know only too well how life can be entirely dictated by money - and particularly the lack of it! To that end we try to be as accommodating as we can be towards other charities and needy folk. We acknowledge that we are extremely blessed to be in the position of owning our own recording studio and, because most of the staff working at Rhema Youth Works are Christians, our urge to help and support others is sometimes overwhelming.
We are funded for 13-19 year olds, but our oldest clients were in their 70s and our youngest, a mere 18 months. If we can help, we will try, but unfortunately that doesn't mean we have a completely open door policy: that just isn't possible. We treat all requests on a case by case basis. The studio isn't available for hire either. However, donations are never refused!
